My generation is probably going to be known as the lazy, time-wasting generation. The one that had the most resources (laptops, tablets, TVs, the Internet, cellphones) and did the least with it. I mean, face it. My 6 year old sister has access to more technology then my mom did when she was 20. I have a Kindle fire and a cell phone and 2 computers that are accessible to almost all day every day. Most of my peers have access to the same things I do, if not more. And what do we do with all this stuff?
We waste time.
Yesterday, when all the adult members of my family were huddled around the iPhone 4s wondering what "practical uses" it had, I was busy asking Siri stupid questions.
Me: Siri will you marry me?
Siri: My End User Licensing Agreement does not cover marriage. My apologies.
Me :I need to hide a body.
Siri: What kind of places are you looking for? Metal foundries, swamps, reservoirs, dumps, mines.
Me: I love you Siri.
Siri: You are the wind beneath my wings.
My conversation with Siri went on for much longer than that...well, at least until I discovered all the free apps in the app store. There is an app for almost EVERY SINGLE THING you could possibly imagine.
Oooh. Have you ever used the app where you pop the cap off a virtual bottle of coke, then pour it in a glass, fill it with ice cubes, and then virtually drink it on your iPhone?
Or the app where you take pictures of yourself and then put weird special effects on them so they look all distorted and not like you at all?
Or the app with the guns. You touch the screen and the virtual gun shoots virtual bullets and makes gunshot sounds.
Oh yeah, and the biggest time waster of all time: Angry Birds. So you have these birds, and you don't really understand when you first get into the app why they're so angry. But then you see those evil smiling green pigs surrounded by strange buildings made of wood and glass and stone and you understand...you have to to destroy those pigs. And no matter how many times it takes to beat the level you have to finish it. And then you have to go back and repeat all the levels you've completed to try to get 3 stars.
Even just scrolling through the app store wastes time. You look for new apps, and free apps that you think you're getting a deal on because having more apps on your phone just makes you so much cooler!
The more I think about it, the stupider it seems. Why don't we take advantage of all this technology to actually do something cool? Or something that will get us ahead in life?
Buuuuuuuut...that doesn't really mean I'm thinking of changing my ways.
Now, I'm going to go kill zombies with plants that have special powers. Because believe it or not, there's an app for that.
